Osinbajo Fails To Swear In New Ministers – For The Second Time
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo did not swear in the two new ministers recently confirmed by the senate.
The presidency is yet to give an official explanation for the postponement of the inauguration which was supposed to be part of the acting president’s schedule at Wednesday’s federal executive council (FEC) meeting.
Wednesday’s meeting makes it the second time that Osinbajo would preside over FEC meeting since the nominees were cleared.
Earlier in March, President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded the names of two ministerial nominees – Stephen Ocheni (Kogi state) and Suleiman Zanna Hassan (Gombe state) – to the senate for confirmation.
Ocheni’s name was sent as replacement for James Ocholi, former minister of state for labour and employment, who died in an auto crash in 2016, while Hassan is expected to take over from Amina Mohammed, who resigned as minister of environment to assume office as deputy secretary-general of the United Nations (UN).
The senate confirmed their appointments on May 3.
Osinbajo had taken over from Buhari after the president returned to UK for a second medical vacation this year.
