Another Major Tragedy Hits London As Fire Engulfs Grenfell Tower, Kills Many

grenfell tower

A huge fire late Tuesday night engulfed Grenfell Tower, a 27-story apartment block in West London killing several people while more than 50 are in hospital.

London Fire Brigade immediately arrived the scene with more than 250 firefighters and 100 ambulance medics to tackle the blaze as rescue workers tried to evacuate the building located in Lancaster West Estate in North Kensington.

According to BBC’s Andy Moore who was at the scene through the night “The Police keep pushing back their cordons, pushing back members of the public for fear the building might collapse.”

However, the London Ambulance Service has confirmed that the fire is being treated as a major incident as many people have been taken to 5 different hospitals around London for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan said he was devastated by the horrific scenes.

Speaking to BBC Radio, he said “Questions will need to be answered over the safety of tower blocks.”

“We can’t have a situation where people’s safety is put at risk because of bad advice being given or if it is the case, as has been alleged, of tower blocks not being properly serviced or maintained,” he added.
