BROADCAST BY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI,
AUGUST 21, 2017.
My dear citizens,

I am very grateful to God and to all Nigerians for their prayers. I am pleased to be back on home soil among my brothers and sisters.

2. In the course of my stay in the United Kingdom, I have been kept in daily touch with events at home. Nigerians are robust and lively in discussing their affairs, but I was distressed to notice that some of the comments, especially in the social media have crossed our national red lines by daring to question our collective existence as a nation. This is a step too far.

3. In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

4. Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

5. Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

6. I believe the very vast majority of Nigerians share this view.

7. This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.

8. The National Assembly and the National Council of State are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse.

9. The national consensus is that, it is better to live together than to live apart.

10. Furthermore, I am charging the Security Agencies not to let the successes achieved in the last 18 months be a sign to relax.

11. Terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed relentlessly so that the majority of us can live in peace and safety.

12. Therefore we are going to reinforce and reinvigorate the fight not only against;

· elements of Boko Haram which are attempting a new series of attacks on soft targets

· kidnappings, farmers versus herdsmen clashes,

· in addition to ethnic violence fuelled by political mischief makers. We shall tackle them all.

13. Finally, dear Nigerians, our collective interest now is to eschew petty differences and come together to face common challenges of;

· economic security,

· political evolution and integration

· as well as lasting peace among all Nigerians.

14. I remain resolutely committed to ensuring that these goals are achieved and maintained. I am so glad to be home.

15. Thank you and may God bless our dear Nation.

The Problem’s in Nigeria is not the name, Igbo, hausa, Yoruba, not corruption, the problem in Nigeria since 1953, till date is religion problem’s, this religion problem’s is the major problem’s that cause the civil war in 1967, and the same religion problem kept Nigeria undeveloped today, has it been that all the tribes in Nigeria is only Muslims or only Christian’s, Nigeria would have developed more than some country in Europe or America, and nobody would have experience all this killings, bad road , no light, unemployment, corruption, referendum, militant, boke haram etc, if I am in the position to judge, my judgment for peace is let the Muslims have their country and let Christian’s have their country. Nothing more

    A DISAPPOINTING PRESIDENTIAL BROADCAST

Thank God the President is back, praying that God will perfect His healing in Jesus name.

Reading through the presidential broadcast however, one cannot but express a sense of utter disappointment. This is a president who virtually sneaked out of Nigeria, who breached his own self declaration of transparency, by keeping Nigerians in the dark for over 100 days, and in that process grinding the wheel of progress of the nation.

Notwithstanding that the president took Nigerians for granted, he was not impeached, but rather Nigerians were offering prayers for his recovery, daily, only for him to return with a language of combat and insult, describing his own citizens as “irresponsible elements”!

There must just be something about the APC ruling govt that detests truth and consistency. Whist the president was away, his Vice President translated our freedom of expression into hate speeches and terrorism and here is the president, few days thereafter, piling up hatred and animosity upon Nigerians, who are simply demanding restructuring, true federalism and dialogue, asking the president and his party, to fulfill their campaign promises.

This should not be language of a president that has benefited from the goodwill and magnanimity of his people, this cannot be the message of gratitude that Nigerians deserve from the president, who has been absent from duty.

The president has not addressed the questions on the lips of all Nigerians, as to make full and frank disclosures, on the nature of his ailment, that took him out of Nigeria for 103 days, the state of his health presently, and the nature of his treatment, so as to engender hope in this regime and bring certainty to governance.
I had thought that the aides of the president were being unduly diplomatic, all the while, by keeping the sealed lip over his health status, but it is clear now from the president’s speech, that they were only acting out his script of secrecy, contrary to his oath of office.

The greatest disappointment in the presidential broadcast is the act of buck passing, on the issue of restructuring, true federalism and devolution of powers, which were the main campaign slogans of the president, as encapsulated in the APC manifesto.

So, I now ask: what was it that the president was discussing with the senate president and the speaker of the House of

Representatives when they all visited him in London?

Did they not tell the president that members of his ruling APC party killed the demand for restructuring, devolution of powers, true federalism, state police, etc, while he was away?
Did they not tell him that Nigerians are hungry? Did they not tell him that infrastructure has virtually collapsed all over the nation? Did they not tell him that Boko Haram has resurrected? Did they not tell the president of the latest report that corruption is festering under his regime?

The president admitted much in his speech that he had been following developments back home. So he was well aware of the current atmosphere of the Nigerian nation, but he chose to transfer his own responsibility back to the same National Assembly that scuttled the yearnings and expectations of our people.

While we pray that his healing should be permanent, I believe very much that the president owes Nigerians a sacred duty to be open, transparent and forthright with his state of health and medical treatment.

Above all, we don’t need a language of war, that will increase the tensions all over the land, we don’t need the language of combat, we don’t need the language of division, and surely we don’t need abuses.

The president should be a man of peace and he should restore hope and confidence in all our people.

If the president has admitted so much in his broadcast that he and his government have failed Nigerians, then he cannot in the same speech be throwing insults and threats to the same people that he has failed.

    Long live Nigeria.

To be frank why is unity of Nigeria more important to the Northern nigeria most especialy the Hausa/Fulanies If there is no secret gain attached to this their unity stuff why must the unity be achieved with blood ? I thought that the north are boasting that they can live alone and can survive without the Igbos from the comments of this Mr Buhari it is crystal clear that they are afraid of standing alone and can never survive without Igbos along with them all hail the great tribe Igbos he talked about moderlities of coexistance then let him #RESTRUCTURE Nigeria now which is one of the moderlities profered by all.

Buhari himself is a tribalist he should practice what he preach. His appointments and remarks does not portray that of a leader. When he make remarks saying he will not treat the constituency that gave him 95 percent of their vote equal with the constituency that gave him 5 percent, remarks like that and his lopsided appointments as well as persecution of the opposition party contributed to what’s happening in Nigeria now

Mr President You want Nigerians to take you serious when you said that Chief Ojukwu was your private guest in 2003 and two of you agreed that Nigeria must remain one. Does Nigeria belong to two of you? Who and who did you consult among 180 million Nigerians before taking that decision? Is self determination a crime? He says a man is coming for his people, for his nation, for africa, for black race, its says freedom fighter standing on a mountain in a foreign country trying to send a message to his people back in the ghetto.

He had a home one time love a girl/woman but he left all that behind oh yes i can hear him clearly as he whispers in the air, his voice came out loud and clear, all he asked for was a prayer and as he turn to walk away he said i’m still here in the house of exile for the love of the new nation: sun went down on the mountain birds flew back to their hiding places leaving him standing there like a telephone pole in the still of the night you and i dream, dreaming of romeo and juliet all he dreams about is the freedom of the new nation; when every man will be equal in the eye of the law as he closes his eyes for the last time he said again.
