Restructuring Summit: Yoruba Leaders Reject Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, Demand Autonomy

Yoruba

The people and leaders of the Yoruba in the South-west, Kogi and Kwara States and the Diaspora have adopted the ‘Ibadan Declaration’ which seeks the immediate restructuring of the country.

In a restructuring summit held in Ibadan, the Yorubas, after hours of deliberation, agreed that they no longer want to be governed under the 1999 constitution.

They demanded for a six-regional structure as a condition for an indivisible country.

The implication of the Ibadan Declaration adoption is that the Yoruba ethnic group are demanding regional governance.

Present at the summit in show of solidarity were President of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo and leader of the South South Forum, Chief Albert Horsfall.
