IPOB Members Should Not Be Regarded As Terrorists – Ooni Of Ife
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi has said members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) should not be regarded as terrorists.
He said this on Friday when he paid a courtesy visit to Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State.
Recall that the South-East Governors’ Forum proscribed the activities of the group, after a clash with soldiers.
A Federal High Court had also declared the group a terrorist organisation.
The Ooni renamed the group Indigenous People of Brighter Nigeria (IPOBN). According to him, they were justified in asking for justice and equity. He also stated that their energy could be tapped and channeled to build a better Nigeria.
“There is something that is bordering them; there is something that is making them to cry,” he said.
“We should not throw them away; we should draw them closer because the youth of this country are the future, the energy, they are the heartbeat of this country.”
“We must chart the course of doing things with positive energy. I want to let you know that you are not alone in this,” he said.
“We stand by you positively in a very progressive manner. We stand by you; we all must come together to build a united Nigeria. We don’t want any war; we don’t want any disintegration.”

The Biafrans who took part in the Battle of Abagana Salute the Oni, the Monarch of the Yoruba Land but the Yorubas should forgive us if we erred in accosting the Oni for we don’t have a monarch in Biafra. The Oni should do the right thing by advising the Government of Buhari to conduct a Referendum to ascertain the political desires of the Biafrans. Nigeria has conducted two referenda in the past without it being specifically provided in the constitution.

The ooni is entitled to his opinion, but i know his statement is just a mere academic exercise. Seriously i don’t know why some of our youth are so gullible,somebody was here in this country through out the period of the battle between the IPOB and the Nigerian Army and ooni didn’t find it necessary to condemn the federal government for declaring IPOB a terrorist group, he did not equally caution IPOB on their activities to prevent federal government from labeling them a terrorist organization, but just because he happens to find himself in Igbo land, specifically Abia state, he now took that advantage to say Biafra agitators should not be regarded as a terrorist and some of our youth are hailing him. What a shame. So anybody can just come and deceive this so called IPOB members and they will clap for the person? This is hypocrisy of the highest order.
