IGP Orders Arrest Of IBB’s Aide Over IBB Letter To Buhari
Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, has reportedly ordered the arrest of Prince Kassim Afegbua, the media aide to former President, Ibrahim Babangida, for a statement he issued on behalf of his boss.
There was confusion Sunday night over the authenticity of a letter allegedly written by former President, Ibrahim Babangida to President Muhammadu Buhari where he asked the President not to recontest the 2019 presidential election.
The letter signed on behalf of Babangida by his Consultant on media, Prince Kassim Afegbua but few hours later, Babangida denied writing any open letter to the president, insisting he had unfettered access to the President as a statesman and former President of the country.
Babangida said, “Let me categorically state that as former President and statesman, I have unfettered channel of communication with the highest authorities without sensational public correspondence, therefore those views expressed over there are personal views of the writer” This issuance of the warrant of arrest was disclosed by a Presidency source on Sunday, according to nigeriannewsdirect.
Afegbua in a statement purportedly issued on Sunday on behalf of Babangida had quoted the former President as saying that President Muhammadu Buhari should not seek reelection in 2019.
But the former President, in a swift reaction, denied issuing such a statement.
He called on Nigerians to disregard the earlier statement by Afegbua.
The Presidency source, who does not want his name in print, said that the IGP has ordered the arrest of Kassim Afegbua for allegedly issuing a fake statement.
Afegbua was advised to submit himself to the Force Headquarters within 24 hours or face arrest. The media aide has however insisted that he had the permission of the former president to issue the statement credited to him.

did IBB reported a case of deformation of character against his spokesman to police? If no, police should leave the man alone and face other security challenges in the country.
