Police Invade Residence Of Jonathan’s Ex-Aide In Ondo

Kingsley Kuku

Men from the Police Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday invaded the residence of Kingsley Kuku in Arogbo Ijaw community, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Kuku was the former Special Adviser to the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan on Nigeria Delta Affairs.

He has been on medical trip to United States of America (USA) for the past two years.

The armed policemen, numbering about 20, were said to have invaded the community, shooting sporadically into the air and scaring away the people of the community.

A source said the policemen moved into the private residence of Kuku and broke into every locked room in the house.

The whole house, according to the source, were searched for hours by the security operatives.

“They forcefully broke into every room and everywhere in the house, claiming to be in search of kidnappers.

“After combing all the rooms in the house for more than two hours, they left without finding anything incriminating or any kidnapper,” the source said.

He said some aged people in the community got injured while scrambling for safety.

A woman, who did not want her name mentioned, described the invasion as uncivil, abrupt and barbaric.

She wondered if any one would have prevented the security operatives from performing their lawfully duty.

She said “This act demonstrated and exhibited by the police is worrisome and a condemnable.

“How can the Police who are supposed to protect the citizens be the source of panic in a peaceful community by storming a private residence without a search warrant?

“Why should they shoot sporadically to scare away unharmed citizens, claiming to be in search of kidnappers? This should not be happening in a democratic state.”

Joseph Femi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed that men from the Police Headquarters came to the community.

Joseph explained that the police were on lawful duty since they were armed with a search warrant.

He said police would not have invaded Kuku’s residence without presenting the search warrant to the occupants.
