Akpabio: Akwa Ibom Sacks Two Commissioners

Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel

Akwa Ibom State Government has sacked Mr Victor Antai, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, and Mr. Ibanga Akpabio, his Labour and Productivity counterpart, from the state Executive Council.

The sacked Commissioners are expected to vacate their offices with immediate effect.

This was contained in a release signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Secretary to the State Government and made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Wednesday.

The government in the release said both commissioners had to be removed from the State Executive Council following their reluctance to comply with good governance processes of government.

With the development, Mr. Victor Antai and Mr. Ibanga Akpabio had been mandated to handover to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry before closing of work on Wednesday.

ORIENTAL TIMES observed that Ibanga Akpabio, one of the sacked commissioners who is Sen. Godswill Akpabio’s younger brother, has openly demonstrated his political stance since his elder brother’s defection was confirmed, while Antai was sighted publicly romancing and waving flags to receive Senator Godswill Akpabio at the airport.

Giving more insight into the sack of the two commissioners from the state executive council, Mr. Charles Udoh, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said there could only be one ruler in a state at a time.

Udoh said recent actions and activities of the aforementioned members of the state executive council were inimical to the unity of the state executive and the entire Akwa Ibom State.

While identifying Governor Udom Emmanuel as a unique successor who has continued to accord so much respect to his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and has continued to regard him as a mentor, he, however, noted that power is from God and no man should therefore play god in the life of a fellow human.

He encouraged Akwa Ibom people to continue to keep the faith and work to promote the existing peace and unity in the state.
