BREAKING: Buhari Rejects Matthew Seiyefa, Appoints Yusuf Bichi As DSS DG
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Yusuf Bichi as the new director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS).
Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The statement described Bichi as a “core secret service operative”.
“The new DSS boss comes to the job with skills in intelligence gathering, research analysis, conflict management, general investigation, risk and vulnerability operations, counter intelligence and protective operation and human resources management,” the statement read.
“In the course of his career, Mr. Bichi has worked as the State Director of Security in Jigawa, Niger, Sokoto and Abia states.
“He was at various times the Director, National Assembly Liaison, (National War College), Director at National Headquarters in the Directorate of Security Enforcement, Directorate of Operations, Directorate of Intelligence, Directorate of Inspection and Directorate of Administration and Finance.”
He attended Danbatta Secondary School, the Kano State College of Advanced Studies and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he graduated with a degree in political science.
The new director-general began his career in the security division of the cabinet office in Kano, from where he joined the Nigerian Security Organization (NSO), the precursor of the present DSS.
“Bichi has undergone training in intelligence processing analysis, agent handling recruitment and intelligence processing in the UK, as well as strategic training at the National Defence College,” the statement read.
He is married and with children.
While Buhari was on vacation in London in August, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo fired Lawal Daura, former director-general of the agency, and appointed Matthew Seyeifa in acting capacity.
This followed the invasion of the national assembly by armed DSS operatives.

Probably, a Muslim. Matthew who was next in command to the sacked DSS boss(who Buhari wanted to bring back after his return from 10 days ‘sickness’ vacation in London) but, maybe because he is a Christian

Security is a paramount function of state. Northernalization of security apparatus is the greatest threat to entire southern Nigeria. Please can we separate this country peaceful? This president is not transparent in uniting us. Let his brainwashed adherents stop fake packaging and deceit.

So the president should not put someone he will trust in a sensitive area as that abi? Dogs When Seyeifa was appointed as the Acting DG of the DSS, they said it was no big deal, and even pointed out that his compulsory retirement from the service was imminent.
But now that a substanstive DG from the North has been appointed, it has become a big deal, and the usual talk of nepotism has resurfaced.
Personally, if I were to be Buhari, and with all the political drama, schemes and subterfuge going on, I wont allow any Southerner to head any sensitive security agency. And even the ones from the North would follow Ngige to Okija and swear fealty to me.Hope we learn with open mind … pls note that what am about to say is not about hailing or supporting PMB’s action on this DSS issue.
According to the Act that setup DSS, it is a special security outfit to protect the President himself and his family and other VIPs. They are % loyal to the President and not to the country, even though they are setup by the country. They do not work like Police or other military forces. They receive special security training to protect President and defend him and his office. DSS was setup as a measure to counter coup from military forces, hence their loyalty to the President % alone. They are always prepared for any shakeup without reading meaning to it. That’s the nature of their job.
In view of this, any President is at liberty to choose whoever he deemed fit to head the institution that was setup to protect him.
For example …
When OBJ was president … the head of DSS was Col. Kayode Are
When Jonathan was President, Ita Ekpeyong was the head of DSS.
Therefore, if OBJ could have someone he trusted from his region and Jonathan chose someone he trusted from his region too, so why do you expect PMB to retain someone who he couldn’t trust to head his personal security team from other region, knowing the kind of politics of hatred and bitterness we are playing in this country? More especially when he was nearly killed in Aso Villa.
Let’s be honest, fair and sincere to ourselves. Also let’s learn to respect our laws and constitution. That’s what the law says and no ethnic bigotry can change that.
