BREAKING: APC Lagos Primary: Ambode Calls Press Conference After Sanwo-Olu’s Win, May Announce Defection

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, is set for a world press conference today in Ikeja, the state capital.

The conference is scheduled to commence 5pm Nigerian time.

ORIENTAL TIMES that the governor may use the medium to “announce his next line of action”.

What this means is that Ambode is likely to declare his exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

There had been rumours that some opposition parties were inviting him to come and get their automatic governorship ticket for 2019.

It would be recalled that Ambode held a similar briefing on Sunday.

Apparently infuriated by the endorsement of Babajide Sanwo-Olu by APC national leader, Bola Tinubu and other chieftains and stakeholders, Ambode opened a can of worms.

He said: “The aspirant being put up to compete against us is not a fit and proper person to take this job. I have done everything in the last three and half years to serve people selflessly and to serve the poor.

“This particular aspirant is somebody that has been arrested for spending fake dollars in a nightclub in America, and he has been detained for months.

“He doesn’t have the competence to do what he is being propelled to do. This is somebody that has gone for rehabilitation before.

“The records are there at the Gbagada General Hospital. We don’t want to go too far. Our leadership should have a rethink”.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu has hailed Ambode, for putting up ‘a good fight’ at the primary.

“I think it is important that I also thank the executive governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for a good fight”, the former commissioner said after he was declared winner.

“I want to thank him for giving us the opportunity, to let this direct primary come to stay and we were able to have it.

“I want to thank him. I want to wish him the very best in the remainder of his tenure as the executive governor of Lagos State”.

Sanwo-Olu also appreciated his supporters and Lagos residents promising that he will not take them for granted.

“You have all worked tirelessly for the level we are now. I am indeed grateful and appreciate all your efforts.

“Lagosians, with what you have done for me, I cannot take you for granted. I will cherish it for the rest of my life.”
