IPOB: Don’t Repeat Python Dance Experience In S’East, Nwodo Warns Buratai
The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo has warned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, over his recent marching orders to Division and Garrison Commanders in the South East of Nigeria over the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] members.
Gen. Buratai reportedly ordered his men to forestall the IPOB threat to boycott the forthcoming general elections and instead hold their own referendum.
Reacting to the order, Chief Nwodo warned Buratai never to repeat the Operation Python Dance experience as was the case in 2017.
During that operation, several IPOB members were murdered in cold blood by heavily armed security operatives who shot to kill at close range.
Many youths met their deaths while others met theirs to ruination and injuries.
Their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu jumped bail to the chagrin of his sureties and is reportedly in asylum in London.
Reacting to the latest order, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, in a statement titled “Don’t Repeat Operation Python Dance Experience!”, gave stern warning to Buratai.
He severely condemned the marching orders to go after IPOB members in the South East region
He said: “Ohaneze is disturbed that this kind of order might be misconstrued to execute carnage, drowning in shallow water and inhuman and degrading treatment on our youths as happened in the last operation python dance in Abia State.
“IPOB remains a peaceful organization championing self-determination.
“Their last threat for boycott of Anambra State elections witnessed no violence but instead we saw a higher turnout of voters than in the previous elections.
“The army did not order any such operation then as they are ordering now.
“We hope this operation is not aimed at scaring the people of the South East from coming out to cast their votes.
“We should be allowed to use our traditional rulers, community leaders and religious leaders to restrain our children,” he noted.
