Igbos To Blame For Losing Senate Leadership Seats — APC
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Yekini Nabena has declared that the Igbos have themselves to blame for losing the opportunity to either become the Senate President or Deputy Senate President in the incoming 9th National Assembly.
Nabena, made the declaration in reaction to Senator – elect, Orji Uzor Kalu’s statement that he will contest for the post of Senate President if he is not given the slot for deputy.
According to him, APC should not be blamed for not zoning the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President to the South-East but rather, the South-East should blame itself for queuing behind Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP in the just concluded presidential elections.
Meanwhile,, the party has zoned the Senate President position to North-East, Deputy Senate President to the North-West, and Chief Whip to the South-East.
However, this did not augur well with Kalu as he felt it was a slight on the South East.
Reacting, Nabena said the party does not deserve any blame for not zoning the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President to the South-East but rather the South-East should blame itself for queuing behind Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP in the just concluded general elections.
The party’s deputy scribe insisted, however, that while nobody is stopping Kalu from contesting for the position of Senate President, the reality remains that he (Kalu) cannot win since the zoning arrangement does not favour him.
Nabena advised that rather than getting angry with APC leadership, Kalu should blame his people in the South-East for putting all their eggs in one basket by rejecting President Muhammadu Buhari and casting over 90 percent of their votes for Atiku.
“He (Kalu) can contest for the position of Senate President. But the issue is, can he win? Nobody is stopping him from contesting. Igbo people always play themselves out. So, Kalu cannot blame APC.
“He should blame his own people from the South-East. He should blame them because they don’t know how to play politics. They play politics like a one-way thing. They all voted for Atiku in the presidential election. So, now that Atiku lost, who will help people like Orji Kalu? 99.9 percent of them followed Atiku. said this while reacting to the comment made by former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, that the party must make him the deputy senate president or he will contest for the Senate President.

What is the sense in promoting a bad product, because there are crumbs to be had, by and through senate positions? Buhari has no record of accomplishments, and there’s no visible light at the end of the tunnel.
If the SE (and SS) votes again, the zone will still reject Buhari, and choose a candidate who can perform, a unifying candidate, even handed, and president for/of all. That is patriotism and the right way to vote.
Eventually, posterity is on our side.
