BREAKING: Ahmad Lawan Sworn-In As Senate President — After Securing 79 Votes With Help Of 16 PDP Senators

The anointed candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ahmad Lawan, for the position of the Senate President of the ninth Assembly has emerged winner and has been consequently sworn-in.
Lawan won with a total of 79 votes while his opponent, Senator Ali Ndume garnered only 28 votes.
Where the total number of APC senators stand at 62, YPP has 1 and PDP 44 senators.
If all the 62 senators of the APC and Ifeanyi Ubah of the YPP voted for Lawan, it therefore means that 16 senators-elect of the PDP also voted for Lawan to become the Senate President.
ORIENTAL TIMES recalls that the opposition party, PDP, had earlier endorsed Senator-elect Ali Ndume for the position of the Senate President but its members as shown by the total votes cast apparently went against the party’s decision.
