BREAKING: Police Recover Improvised Explosive Device In Anambra
The Police in Anambra State has recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) manufactured with shrapnel glued together with cement concrete and connected with two wires.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the device which was extended to a nearby bush was detected near a police post at Otuocha-Nando road, Otuocha in Anambra East LGA.
SP Haruna Mohammed, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer who disclosed this via statement in Awka, said that the command was still investigating to find out those behind it.
According to the statement: “On the 20/06/2019 at about 2:40pm, an object suspected to be explosive device was sighted just behind an Observation Point of Policemen attached to 54PMF along Otuocha-Nando road, Otuocha in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State.
“The Area was immediately cordoned off and the Command Explosives Ordinance Disposal unit (EOD) operatives were deployed to scene where a white paint bucket filled with shrapnels glued together with cement concrete and connected with two wires extended to the nearby bush was examined and confirmed to be an improvised explosive device (IED).”
The PPRO, said the device was successfully deactivated and evacuated to a safer location for demobilisation.
The Command called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects or persons to the nearest police station.
