Herdsmen: Defend Yourselves, Enough Is Enough – Ooni Of Ife Tells Yorubas

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on Yoruba to be united and end the spate of killings in the South-West, saying they can no longer fold their hands and allow the mindless killing of their people.
Apparently worried by the gruesome killing of the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the frontline monarch said the region had heard enough of the killings by herdsmen.
Speaking at the thanksgiving of a member of the National Assembly, Olufemi Bamisile, Oba Ogunwusi described the sustained aggression in the South-West as unacceptable.
Bamisile represents Ekiti South Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives.
According to the monarch, it was time for the region to unite and defend itself against bandits.
He called on the Yoruba people to be united at this time and protect their territory.
“I call on all the people of Yoruba race at this time to be united. The time has come to end this killing. This killing must end – enough is enough.”
In his sermon, Reverend Emmanuel Abejide of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Ekiti State, declared that the current security situation in the country was unfortunate.
He warned that unless the leaders put their thinking cap on, things might get worse.
He said: “We have failed so much. Many of our political leaders have failed to develop our potential. If, by God’s grace, you have the opportunity to be in a position, it is by God’s grace, please use it for the benefit of mankind.”
As for Bamisile, he said that the various stakeholders in the South-West were already talking, adding that the region would defend itself.
“The death of Pa Fasoranti’s daughter is one of the greatest mistakes that ever happened in the South-West. With the step that we are taking, we are moving ahead to stop the killings,” he said.
