TrueCaller is a neat smartphone app that shows details on incoming calls. Even if the caller isn’t in your contacts list it can acquire and display details on the caller so you can make an informed decision about whether to answer or not.

CHANGE YOUR NAME IN TRUECALLER

For some random reason, when you install the app and register, it can sometimes display your name incorrectly. Fortunately it is easy to fix.

• Open the TrueCaller app on your device.

• Select the three line menu icon.

• Select Edit profile and change your name in the next window.

The change can sometimes take a little while to be uploaded and corrected but once done, it should continue to show your correct name.

RECORD CALLS WITH TRUECALLER

It is unfortunately sometimes necessary to record calls for evidence or to prompt someone into action. As long as you tell the person on the call they are being recorded, it is perfectly legal to do. Premium users of TrueCaller can record calls from within the app.

• Open the TrueCaller app on your device.

• Select the three line menu icon and select Settings.

• Select Call Recordings and toggle Record Calls to on.

When a call comes in, you will see a Record button in the phone app, select it and the call will be recorded for you. If you want to listen to the recording, navigate back to the Call Recordings menu and they will be listed on the page. Select to play back.

SCAN PHONE NUMBERS WITH YOUR CAMERA

If you don’t want to manually add someone’s number into your phone, you can take a picture of it written down and TrueCaller will add it as a contact.

This is a very neat feature and one reason this app is so useful. It is ideal for collecting business contacts from newspapers, business cards or scribbled on a Post-It note.

• Open the TrueCaller app on your device.

• Swipe left from the side to open the preview window.

• Select Payments and Scan & Pay.

• Point the camera at the phone number and take a picture.

• Correct it, name it and save it if necessary.
