UK, EU Finally Reach Brexit Deal

British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced that a “great new deal” that will see the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union is in place.

Johnson, who made the announcement on Thursday, called on lawmakers in London to approve the agreement at a sitting of the parliament slated for Saturday.

“We’ve got a great new deal that takes back control – now Parliament should get Brexit done on Saturday so we can move on to other priorities like the cost of living, the NHS, violent crime and our environment,” the PM said via his twitter page.

Johnson had been in talks with EU officials to work out the details of his new proposals for Brexit.

On his part, the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, confirmed Thursday that Brussels had come to an agreement with Britain on a Brexit withdrawal agreement to be presented to EU leaders.

“Where there is a will, there is a deal — we have one! It’s a fair and balanced agreement for the EU and the UK and it is testament to our commitment to find solutions,” Juncker tweeted.

“I recommend that EUCO endorses this deal,” he said, referring to the European Council of the leaders of member states that was to meet later Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Union Party (DUP) whom the British PM is said to be relying on in the House of Commons have reportedly said they wont accept his offer.

The DUP was said to have after the PM’s announcement said their earlier statement “still stands,” implying that Johnson’s plans to reach an agreement on Saturday may not work.

“We have been involved in ongoing discussions with the government,” skynews quoted the party to have said.

“As things stand, we could not support what is being suggested on customs and consent issues, and there is a lack of clarity on VAT.

“We will continue to work with the government to try and get a sensible deal that works for Northern Ireland and protects the economic and constitutional integrity of the United Kingdom,” said the DUP.
