UK PM Johnson Presents Bill For January Brexit
UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has said he would present a bill to parliament on Friday to enable Britain to leave the European Union by January, 2020.
The prime minister’s spokesman disclosed this Monday.
According to the spokesman, Boris is looking forward to Britain’s exit from the European Union as soon as possible.
“We plan to start the process before Christmas and will do so in the proper constitutional way in discussion with the speaker [of the House of Commons],” he said.
BBC reports that the withdrawal agreement bill is the legislation that will enable Brexit to happen as the UK is due to leave the EU on 31 January.
The Prime Minister would also be addressing his new members of parliament in Westminster.
According to BBC, many of the 109 new Conservative MPs won in areas traditionally held by Labour in Thursday’s election, which saw the Conservatives gain an 80-seat majority.
Based on European Council conclusions, EU leaders had endorsed the withdrawal agreement in October 2019 and had approved the political declaration on future EU-UK relations.
This deal, which has to be ratified by both sides, paves the way for an orderly departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union by 31 January, 2020.
In December 2019, EU leaders reconfirmed their aim of establishing the closest possible post-Brexit relationship with the UK.
“The future relationship will have to be based on a balance of rights and obligations and ensure a level playing field,” the EU memo read.
