Catholic Priests Should Be Allowed To Get Married — Yul Edochie

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opined that it would be a nice thing to do if Catholic priests are allowed to get married.

Throughout the Catholic Church, a priest may not marry. However, In Catholic Churches in Asia and Middle East, a married priest is one who married before being ordained. The Catholic Church considers the law of clerical celibacy to be not a doctrine, but a discipline.

Clerical celibacy is the discipline within the Catholic Church by which only unmarried men are ordained to the episcopate, to the priesthood in some autonomous particular Churches, and similarly to the diaconate. In other autonomous particular churches, the discipline applies only to the episcopate.

The tradition of clerical continence developed into a practice of clerical celibacy (ordaining only unmarried men) from the 11th century onward among Latin Church Catholics and became a formal part of canon law in 1917.

Well, Yul thinks there should be a change in Catholic doctrine whereby priests should be allowed by the Church to get married.

The actor however did not state what informed his opinion; he even went further to tell his fans not to enquire what his reasons are.

“Now that I’m older and wiser, I believe it’s best for Catholic priests to be allowed to get married.
DON’T ASK ME WHY!,” he tweeted.
