New Bayelsa Governor Gets N2.9bn ‘Loan’ To Buy New Cars

The new governor of Bayelsa State, Duoye Diri has been granted approval by the state House of Assembly to collect N2.9 billion loan “to buy operational vehicles for the governor, deputy governor, and other top government functionaries.”

The loan request was granted by the state Assembly during a plenary on Tuesday following a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Monday Bubou-Obolo.

Bubou-Obolo, who is the immediate past Speaker of the Assembly, said the proposed facility had a repayment tenure of 36 months.

The motion received unanimous support from the lawmakers and the request was approved for the governor.

Governor Diri was trounced in last year’s gubernatorial election but was handed the governorship mandate on a platter by the Supreme Court just hours to the swearing in date.

The Supreme Court validated his mandate again last week after the APC returned to the apex court and asked for a review of the judgement.
