Police Save Robbery Suspect From Being Lynched, Recovers N5m

The Nigerian Police, Sokoto command has rescued one-armed robber suspects from being lynched by mob and sympathisers in Sokoto on Friday.

The command also retrieved the sum of Five million naira (N5m) cash, being the total amount of money the suspect robbed the victim along Emir Yahya road in the state capital.

According to a statement by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, and made available to journalists by the commands PRO, ASP Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq on Saturday.

According to the statement, “following the fortification of security in Sokoto by The Sokoto State Police Command, the activities of the robbery syndicate which specialized in trailing unsuspecting persons from financial institutions have been penetrated through the high visibility policing strategy adopted by the Command.

” It will be recall that exactly a week ago, on 27/02/2020, there was an armed robbery incident, in which an unsuspecting person was trailed from a financial institution by three (3) suspects who carted away the sum of 5 million Naira from the victim at Emir Yahaya road, leaving the victim’s driver with a nonfatal gunshot injury.

“At about 1530hours on Friday, one Abdulrahman Ibrahim, a resident of Sokoto metropolis, withdrew the sum of 5 million Naira from a commercial bank and kept the funds at the rear seat of his motor vehicle after which he drove to Emir Yahaya road and parked, where three (3) unknown persons riding on a motorcycle suddenly stopped at his vehicle, one of the suspects used his head to smash the window to the rear door of the vehicle and quickly took away the money.

“This heinous criminal act was thwarted by the effort of onlookers, who chased and arrested one of the suspects along with the funds.

“The Police operatives, led by the DPO Central Division, CSP Mainasara Y. Maru, swiftly responded to the distress call and rescued the mob injured suspect, who was treated and discharged at the Specialist Hospital and is currently aiding the Police with credible information that will certainly lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects and further recoveries.

” Against this backdrop, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim S. Kaoje calls for calm and assures that the Police remains relentless towards nipping crime in the bud”.

The statement further urges members of the public to exercise maximum precaution when conveying huge amount of money, while assuring that the Command is ever committed to the security of lives and property in the State.

He advised general public not to hesitate to give prompt and accurate information to the police to assist them in the discharge of their duties.
