COVID-19: Abia Establishes Three Isolation Centres

Abia State has established three Isolation Centres at the Amachara General Hospital; Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, and State University Teaching Hospital, Aba – to fight the Coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioner for Health Joe Osuji, who addressed lawmakers at the House of Assembly yesterday, said though no case has been recorded in the state, measures have been put in place to contain the virus

He said: “We have prepared ourselves, we have all we need should we have any unlikely record of the disease. We are using health workers and health officers trained for Ebola Virus and Lassa Fever; we also have our personnel who are undergoing training in Lagos.

“We have done a lot of sensitisation even in churches and town halls in the rural areas. We may not have the modalities to provide isolation centres everywhere, but we have emergency personnel stationed everywhere that can help in emergencies.

“We still pray and appeal to every Abian to give information on any suspected case.”

The House of Assembly has suspended plenary till May 4.

Speaker Chinedum Orji couldn’t give reasons for the long adjournment but it was gathered the suspension could not be unconnected with outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.
