“It’s Deeply Insulting” — Fani-Kayode Faults Tinubu For Not Standing To Greet Ooni Of Ife
Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode says National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu desecrated Yoruba culture by failing to stand while greeting the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 6 during the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdul-Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal Abisogun II at the Iru Palace, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a photo of the event, Ooni Ogunwusi can be seen standing between Tinubu and the new Oniru while exchanging pleasantries with the former.
The former Lagos State Governor sat as he responded to the revered monarch’s greetings.
However, some prominent Yoruba sons berated the ex-governor, saying he should have stood or prostrated to greet the Ooni.
Joining the conversation, Fani-Kayode took to Twitter on Thursday morning to describe the ex-governor’s action as “deeply insulting”.
He wrote, “That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes. This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife & indeed son & daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern political leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler?”
