Prices Of Food Items Are Coming Down — Presidency

The Presidency has countered complaints by Nigerians over the increase in prices of food items as a result of the fuel price hike, stating that contrary to reports, the prices of food items across the nation are dropping.

Garba Shehu, speaking on behalf of the presidency during a Channels TV programme, said the significant drop in prices of food items stems from President Muhammadu Buhari’s agricultural sector reforms.

The presidential aide while stating that prices may differ depending on the state and area, added that on the general, there is a drop in prices of food items.

Reacting to Buhari’s directive on Thursday that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN should with immediate effect stop the release of foreign exchange for importation of food and fertilizer, Garba Shehu said the president’s intentions are in the best interest of Nigeria.

He said; “Nigerians must give consideration for the fact that the President’s directive to the CBN is driven by nothing other than a patriotic move.”
