Missing Nigerian Student Found Dead In Ukraine
21-year-old Nigerian student, Caleb Obari, has been found dead in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine, after he went missing last month.
He went missing after attending a yacht party with friends in August.
According to reports, Caleb Obari lifeless body was found near the coastline in Chornomorsk on the 12th of September, 2020, as the police investigate the cause of his death.
Before his death, his parent had made a video begging for help as regards the whereabouts of their son. Mark, who is Caleb’s father, in the video, said,
“My son who just graduated from Sumy State Agrarian University is missing. It is very unfortunate. We never expected what had happened.
“On Thursday, I got a call from the embassy that my son was invited by a woman for a party and when they came back, they came without my son. I was surprised, so I had to call the embassy back. I also called the school.
“We are not happy and comfortable. We don’t sleep again. That is why we have decided to escalate this matter and get to the root of it. Who took this boy out and never returned with him?
“We want every good Nigerian in Ukraine to come into this matter. This could happen to anyone if we take it for granted.”
According to a volunteer group called Rescue Platform 911, Obari was invited to a party on a boat by Vera Topalova, owner of a BDSM-themed bar Iznanka in Odesa.
Out of some 10 passengers on the boat, Obari was the only foreigner. The boat set sail from the Sauvignon Yacht Club in Odesa and went four kilometers out from the coast, but returned without Obari.
The deceased friend who waited for him after the party was over, said that when the boat arrived without Obari, other passengers gave his personal belongings, including a mobile phone, to him without any explanation of what happened.
Few days after Obari’s disappearance, Topalova in a Facebook post, admitted to inviting him to the party but said he went swimming in the sea together with other guests and went missing which indicates he had drowned since he couldn’t swim.
