“Skills Now Matter More Than Most Degrees” — Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri

Popular Nigerian author, Reno Omokri has reacted to news of “frustrated graduate” who burnt all his school certificates over inability to get a job.

The former presidential aide made his opinion known in a post he shared on his official Instagram page today, September 26.

According to the Amazon best selling author, skills now matter more than academic degrees.

Writing further, Omokri advised graduates never to think their degrees guarantee success.

He also reminded graduates that all they learned in school for 16 years can be sourced in few seconds via google search, thus advised them never to allow their degree certificates make them arrogant.

In an illustration, Omokri said a Masters degree holder isn’t in high demand as a fashion designer, coder or a skilled motor mechanic in today’s world.

He wrote, “Every single thing you learnt in school for 16 years, can be sourced in a few seconds by a Google search. So, don’t let your degrees make you arrogant. Dont think it guarantees you success. The world has changed. Skills now matter more than many degrees. A man with a Masters degree in Literature, or History, or any of such liberal arts, is not in as high demand, as a fashion designer, or a coder, or a skilled motor mechanic, or even a farmer in today’s world. It sounds brutal. But that is because it is true!”
