Court Slaps Nigerian Senator With ₦50 Million For Assaulting Woman

A federal High court sitting in Abuja had slammed N50 million on Senator Elisha Abbo representing Mubi North in the Senate for a 2019 physical assault on a woman in a sex toy shop.

Called the ‘slapping Senator’ thereafter, Abbo’s physical assault of the woman was captured on the CCTV video of the store and attracted nationwide condemnation.

The High Court had struck out a criminal case against Abbo in July for lack of diligent prosecution by the police.

A civil aspect of the matter was however instituted at the Federal High Court, which awarded N50 million against the ‘slapping’ Senator in favour of the victim, Osimibibra Warmate.

A senate committee which was set up to probe the incident by one of its members submitted it’s report in October last year but sanctions have not yet been applied against Abbo.
