Oba Of Lagos, Akiolu, Returns To Palace Two Months After EndSARS Attack

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has returned to his palace, Iga Idungaran on the Lagos Island.

The monarch made a triumphant re- entry two months after he was ferried away by soldiers during an attack on the palace bysome youths during the EndsSARS protests.

A video posted on Twitter by the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Oreoluwa Finnih, on Friday, showed how the monarch returned to his palace.

Oba Akiolu is seen wearing a mask, dancing towards the palace with his entourage in the video.

Finnih tweeted, “Our daddy is back home… Oba of Lagos, HRM, Alayeluwa Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu’s triumphant entry to Iga Idunganran Palace, today, Friday, January 1, 2021.”

Some youths had on October 22 at the peak of the EndsSARS protests invaded the palace, looting and vandalizing the place.

Some soldiers whisked the monarch away to save him from the angry youths who made away with his staff of honour.

The EndsSARS protests turned violent on October 20 following the attack on peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate by armed soldiers .

Many high capacity buses, police station, private businesses and government properties were burnt by some of the hoodlums.
