#OrluMassacre: Governor Uzodimma Asked To Withdraw Soldiers Or Risk Full-scale War

The Orluzurumee Youths Assembly, the umbrella youth group in Orlu, has warned Senator Hope Uzodinma, to withdraw the troops deployed to Orlu, or risk the situation degenerating into a full-scale war.

The warning was contained in a Press Release signed by the Group’s National Publicity Secretary, Ikemba Don Uba, and National President, Prince Arthur Madumere and made available to Oriental Times.

The statement reads:

“The Orluzurumee Youths, being the apex youth body of the people of Orlu Zone in Imo State, have been observing with dismay, the savagery of the joint military campaign in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State which have been ongoing for days on end and have claimed many lives.

“The feelers we got was that the military is avenging for the death of their comrades who were alleged to have been killed by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed unit of the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu -led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“In view of the foregoing, we are calling on the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to quickly intervene and quell this macabre dance between the Nigerian joint security operation (army and the police) on one hand and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) on another so as to halt the wanton destructions of lives and properties of the people of the area.

“It will not be in the best interest of the Imo State and Federal Government of Nigeria to militarize any part of Igboland in the guise of fighting pro-Biafra agitators as any such action will be counterproductive and a boomerang.

“We must reiterate our faith in the capacity of the Nigerian Police, to tackle uprisings such as this in any part of sovereignty of this nation if they were well mobilized and motivated.

“We are of the firm believe that if a sincere opportunity for a resolute dialogue is provided, most of the remote causes of this incessant misunderstanding will be abated as dialogue has proven over and over again to be a profound panacea for peace and development.

“Finally, we call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to recall these soldiers back to their barracks or better still, to our highways where their ingenuity and expertise will come to play.”
