I Wholeheartedly Support Buhari’s Twitter Ban — Ned Nwoko
Ned Nwoko has said that he is ‘wholeheartedly’ in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ban on Twitter, stating that countries need to regulate social media.
The social media platform has been banned in the most populous black nation for over a week now.
Twitter was suspended from operating in Nigeria by the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government last week. The suspension was announced a day after the micro-blogging platform deleted a tweet from the President’s handle for violating its terms and conditions.
Speaking at a June 12 lecture organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja Council, Ned Nwoko drummed support for the FG ban of the app.
“On the current issue with Twitter in Nigeria, I wholeheartedly support the position of the Federal Government,” he said.
According to him, social media needs to be controlled and regulated in countries.
“There should be a measure of control and regulation for social media in countries where they have a presence,” he said.
Nwoko added that social media platforms must pay taxes to governments and provide employment for some Nigerians for the over 100 million population that subscribed to their services.
