IGP Receives Probe Panel Report On DCP Abba Kyari, Reveals Next Line Of Action

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has finally received the report of the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), set up to investigate the indictment of the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Kyari, the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, was indicted by a US Court in California over the alleged involvement in internet fraud of over $1.1million by Ramoni Abba aka Hushpuppi. He is being accused of receiving a bribe from Hushpuppi to arrest and jail a member of his online fraud gang identified as Chibuzo Vincent. Kyari has since denied the allegation.

According to a statement released by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, this evening, the IGP received the report on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Mba said the report was submitted by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. He disclosed that DIG Egbunike while presenting the report to the IGP, expressed his gratitude for the level of confidence reposed on him as well as members of the team who were chosen specifically for the task.

The force spokesperson said Egbunike revealed that the report presented contained the case file of the probe, evidence and findings as well as testimonies from DCP Abba Kyari and other persons and groups linked to the matter.

The statement added that an expeditious review of the recommendations of the probe panel will be undertaken by the Force Management team and thereafter forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary actions.

“The IGP, who commended the Panel for the work done, stated that the essence of the probe was to carry out discrete investigations into the allegation levied against the Officer to enable the Force leadership be appropriately guided in its decision-making processes.

The IGP assured that a careful and expeditious review of the recommendations would be undertaken by the Force Management Team and thereafter forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary action(s). He reiterated as always, the commitment of the Force to justice for all.”
