Actress Stella Damasus Says Original Family Was Ojukwu, Reveals Why They Changed It

A popular Nigerian actress, Stella Damasus, has revealed that ‘Ojukwu’ was originally her family name.

Stella made the revelation during a recent interview with TV host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV.

In the interview, the legendary actress gave some details as to why they abandoned their original family name and adopted ‘Damasus’.

Recall that Stella recently went viral after correcting people that always mispronounce her last as “Damascus”.

Stella’s correction had drawn a lot of reactions from fans who had already gotten used to the ‘Damascus’ pronunciation for decades.

Narrating the origin of her last name, Stella said;

“Many people were used to calling me Damascus, and I had to address it. Damasus is a Greek name given to my grandfather. My original last name was Ojukwu, but it changed during the civil war.

“My people got attacked in Asaba because some people thought we were related to a popular Nigerian General at the time.

“The name got changed to Damasus before I was born. That was the explanation I got. I can not do anything about it,” the actress added.
