Rising Rate Of Ritual Killings And Need To Be Security Conscious

By Sampson Uhuegbu

The increasing rate at which ritual killings have dominated our society today is now a source of worry despite the efforts of the Nigerian police and other security agencies to clamp down criminalities in our society. Parents and guardians had been blamed over this outbreak of moral decadence which can be said to be getting out of proportion.

Considering efforts being made by parents to make them become responsible people in the society, appear to have hit the wall as it has become clear that no matter how fathers and mothers try to train a child, insurbudinate ones would definitely become uncontrollable once they start mingling with bad peers.

It is worrisome that some religious leaders and other respected stakeholders in the society have debased their positions through engagement into immoral dealings- like kidnapping, assassination, killings, Gossip, rape and other related vices that have thrown the sacredness of humanity to the mud.

However, Adults should rise up to their principal roles of instilling good morals, sense of God, responsibility and spirit of hardwork into the young ones as such would fortify them withstand influence from their friends. Moral upbringing among the children seems to have vanished into extinction. Fathers and mothers no longer monitor activities of their offsprings. As they grow older, eyes are supposed to be kept on them to discern the kind of lifestyles they are living- especially in their hostels.

Also, Religious and traditional leaders, the academia, Teachers, family relatives, security agencies and most importantly, Government institutions should rise up to checkmate these vices that are seemingly eroding our society.

Local, State and Federal government’s should as a matter of urgency, constitute a Taskforce Committee which will be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that all forms of smoking of Indian hemp, Mkpuru-mmiri Guzoro and other hard- drugs that incite its smokers into irresponsible action are tackled.

It is commendable, that some Tertiary institutions in the country have banned her students from entering their environments with private cars. This step will reduce the urge of indigent ones to start nursing a get- rich – quick syndrome among themselves.

Parents should quit pushing their enterprising, hard-working and brilliant children to the wall by comparing them with their peers who have excelled in life.

Communities should stop celebrating successes without knowing its source and track records. Respect should not only be accorded to the rich; but encouragement of the industrious and perceverance among the youths are advisable.

Preaching on life that only hinches on Money, money and money and production of children without caring for them is wrong and must be discouraged.

Traditional titles being conferred on anybody once they make money not minding the source, is wrong and condemnable

A situation where every youth is making money without working that society will not grow. There would not be a workforce, human resources, discovery and functional engagements will be lacking because once an average Nigerian make money, they already see that there is no reason for them to work.

Our youths today are Tailors, drivers, food vendors, barbers, doctors, Artisans, Engineers, Phone technicians, Electricians, etcetera and they are greatly excelling in their various areas of calling.

The rising rate of deaths today could be attributed to quick decisions taken by the naive younger ones to make quick money without taking into cognizance its deeadly consiquences which could indubitably mar their promising future.

Over One Million (1,000,000) young people between the ages of Twenty Two to Thirty (22- 30) have been sent to their untimely graves by ritual killers who may have lured them into remoted areas where were gruesomely murdered.

Therefore, tenants are to monitor activities of those living in their neighbourhood to know when they engage into criminal activities and immediately report to the Police of any criminal activities going on in their vecinity.

House landlords and landladies should investigate properly what the occupations of their prospective tenants are; as well as their Communities, Local Governments and States of origin.

Furthermore, Hotels and Guest Houses managements should be mindful of their customers. Circuit Camera Television should be beamed at the entrances and exit gates; including corridors and balconies of the lodging rooms as such would curtail the urge to perpetrate evil at the wee hours of the night.
