Four police officers were killed in Enugu on Thursday by yet-to-be unidentified gunmen, according to reports.

According to the reports, the incident took place around 12noon at a checkpoint located at the Independence Layout in the city.

The criminals attacked the police officers while they were on stop and search, according to reports.

According to a source, the attackers, who were dressed in suits, arrived in two vehicles and then drove into the town, where they opened fire sporadically. He went on to say that other operatives followed in their footsteps.

The attackers were also said to have kidnapped a woman and her driver in addition to killing the police officers.

The incident was confirmed by ASP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State police public relations officer. ‘The information surrounding the incident is still sketchy,’ he stated in response.

He added that, “Manhunt of the hoodlums has been initiated. Further development will be communicated, please.”
