Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former senator and the founder of Baze University, has been selected as the running mate for the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, has announced that the unveiling will take place in Abuja on Friday.

Following the resignation of Dr Doyin Okupe, who had been serving in the position as a stand-in, Obi decided on Baba-Ahmed, a politician turned scholar.

Yusuf Datti Baba Ahmed Biography & Age

Baba-Ahmed, who is currently in his early 50s, is the proprietor of both Baze University in Abuja as well as Baba-Ahmed University in Kano.

Baba-Ahmed is a native of Zaria. He is one of his father’s 33 children. His father was an Arab cattle trader with roots in Mauritania.

He was born on 7th July, in 1969 and received his master’s degree in economics from the University of Maiduguri, where he had already completed his undergraduate studies.

After finishing his education, he got a job at the Mint in Lagos and worked there for a number of years before entering politics.

In 2003, he won the election to serve as a House of Representatives member for Zaria. Between his tenure in 2006, he attended the University of Westminster and earned a doctorate in philosophy.

He was a lawmaker who took part in the opposition against President Obasanjo’s plans for a third term in office.

Following his departure from politics in 2007, Baba-Ahmed went back to his Baze business group and established Baze University.

In September 2008, Baba-Ahmed gave a speech at an Islamic media summit in Abuja, Nigeria. During his speech, he urged journalists to provide fearless and factual stories. According to him, corruption is pervasive throughout the nation, and the only way to rectify the issue is with the fervent prayers and unwavering commitment of all relevant parties. Baba-Ahmed was recently promoted to Managing Director of Baze Research and Data Services Ltd.

In 2011, he made a comeback to politics and was successful in his bid to become a senator for Kaduna North under the PDP.

Nevertheless, the election tribunal overturned his victory, and he left office in the year 2012.

He rose to prominence as a respected academic and authority on Islamic jurisprudence. It is common knowledge that he has been raising awareness about issues such as corruption and the decline of the educational system in the country.

He is the founder and pro-chancellor of Baze University, a private institution founded in April 2011 and based in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
