JUST IN: Suspected Herdsmen Kill Soldiers At Benue, Taraba Border

Fulani herdsmen militia

Suspected Fulani herdsmen at the early hours of yesterday morning attacked soldiers on patrol at a border town the Tseke, in Kante-Chenkai between Benue and Taraba States, killing two soldiers, while two others were abducted.

The soldiers’ patrol vehicle was destroyed.

A source in the area disclosed that some of the soldiers escaped with serious injuries.

According to the source, “That community is a Tiv-Jukun settlement and it is a border community where you can hardly draw a border line between Benue and Taraba States.

“From what we have gathered so far, two of the soldiers were killed, some where taken alive and one of their patrol vehicles was also burnt.

“Though we had that some of the soldiers were still unaccounted for which means that the casualty figure might be higher when the true picture of the attack becomes clearer.”

Confirming the report, the Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, Mr. Richard Nyajo, said the incident happened at around 7a.m. yesterday.

He said herdsmen were responsible for the attack.

“I gave them a base at Mbagegh council ward of Logo Local Government. So in the course of carrying out their peacekeeping operation around the border area, they went into the bush and I don’t know whether the herdsmen heard about them, they came behind and entangled them and opened fire on them.

“They burnt one of their patrol vehicles, injured some of them, took some alive and killed one person but the second person was seriously injured and might not make it alive because he was in bad shape.

“Though one was said to be missing but by tomorrow we will get a clearer picture of the situation, including the actual number of deaths because when an attack scatters a group of people like it happened and some are missing, you cannot just conclude on the casualty figure.”

He added: “But surely some were killed and some were abducted. Though many among those that were missing escaped alive. But by tomorrow we will get a clearer picture of the situation.”

All efforts to confirm the incident from the police and military source were unsuccessful.

    Message:

    “RELIGIOUS BUT LOST”.
    (Luke 18:9-14, 18-27; Acts10:1-48)

Religion is the set of beliefs, feelings, dogmas and practices that define the relations between human being and sacred or divinity. A given religion is defined by specific elements of a community of believers: dogmas, sacred books, rites, worship, sacrament, moral prescription, interdicts, organization. The majority of religions have developed starting from a revelation based on the exemplary history of a nation, of a prophet or a wise man who taught an ideal of life.

Simply put therefore, religion is a set of beliefs which guide the way people in a particular sect or society or place of worship, behave and do things or worship what or who they believe in, following certain principles and procedures.

Religious practices was paramount before the birth of Christ. There were the Laws of Moses, the ten Commandments and many more, a violation of which attracted specified penalties, which included death in some cases.

When Christ came, He brought a new order, as mere religion has no life in itself to save anyone. Very unfortunately however, a lot of people still stick to, and practice religion in their various places of worship. There are those who are religiously lost because they believe and worship some unknown Prophets and dead gods. There are also those who are religious but lost, because they try to practice the Commandments, follow some laid down principles, perform all forms of religious rights, but inwardly, they are far from the Almighty God, as they have no true knowledge of Christ Jesus.

We saw three examples of some people who were religious, from our opening scriptures. They were morally good, very gentle in character, went to cathedrals to fellowship, gave alms, lived the lives of fasting and prayers, took care of the needy, but despite all, they fell short of the glory of God, because Christ Jesus, was lacking in their lives, they were so religious, but lost.

In Acts chapter 10, we saw Cornelius, a very religious man, a Centurion, devout, very wealthy and one that commanded authority too. He had a burning desire to serve the Living God, but not according to knowledge. God Almighty showed him mercy, and revealed Himself to him by granting him salvation through Christ. He sent Simon Peter, to preach Christ to him, as the Giver of life, the Author of Salvation and the Saviour of anyone that believes in Him (Acts 10:34-48). The Bible tells us that while Peter yet preached, Cornelius and all that were with him believed in Christ Jesus, and became genuinely born again, and were instantly baptized in the Holy Ghost.

Are you still practicing religion without the true knowledge of Christ, if yes, then you are lost, and you need to quickly retrace your steps and come to Jesus now, it doesn’t matter how long you have been in the Church. Religion has no life in itself to save anyone. Morality cannot save either. Jesus alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one can get to the Father but by Him. Remember Nicodemus, another religious man, Jesus declared to him, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. Have you had an encounter with the Lord Jesus yet? Are you born again or still struggling with worldliness and the lives of SIN? Does the Spirit of God bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God? Until you have an encounter with Jesus through total surrender and become genuinely born again, you cannot have the witness of the Holy Spirit, that you are a child of God. And without the witness of the Spirit of God that you are one of His, your salvation is questionable (Romans 8:16).

Are you religiously lost, still bowing down to some dead gods and prophets? I beg of you, repent today and invite Jesus Christ, into your heart, as your Lord and Saviour, so that you can have the hope of everlasting life in God’s Kingdom, at the end of your sojourn here on earth.

Father, I pray that as many that have been privileged to go through this message, and are either religiously lost, or religious but lost, you will show them mercy, as you did to Cornelius, and give them the grace to genuinely repent and accept your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, so that they also can be saved and have the hope of spending eternity with you in your Kingdom, in Jesus Mighty Name, amen.
