2019: The Nigerians Who Fear Restructuring – Mailafia

Obadiah Mailafia

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Obadiah Mailafia, has said those who fear restructuring are mainly people who have enjoyed unjustified privileges at the expense of other Nigerians.

He disclosed this on Saturday while presenting his presidential blueprint for nation building and economic transformation in Abuja.

He said his agenda for a new Nigeria is hinged on peace, development and work, saying though the nation is divided along ethnic, religious and regional fault lines, he still believes in Nigeria’s destiny as a great nation under God.

“Our ultimate commitment is to ensure the restructuring of our federation in a manner that allows genuine federalism to flourish,” he said.

He said restructuring is not to punish and worsen the social conditions of the northerners or any other Nigerians, but rather a commitment to assisting them overcome poverty, disease, illiteracy and destitution.

“We are also persuaded that our life-chances and our survival as a corporate political community cannot be guaranteed under the current structure of our federation with its nearly bankrupt states and non-functioning, egregious local government areas.”
