Igbo Group Demands New Constitution

An Igbo socio cultural organisation, Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), has demanded for a brand new Nigeria Constitution.

The group under the leadership of Prof Uzodinma Nwala stated this in Abuja at a one day seminar themed, “The place of the Igboman in present day Nigeria: Historical prognosis into the future”.

According to him, the seminar became necessary having reflected over the past experiences in Nigeria since 1914 when they were forced by a foreign power by instrument of amalgamation that created a country called Nigeria, adding that having being victims of several programmes and attempted acts of genocide against the Igbo race by government of Nigeria, the Igbos are once more compelled to make the ultimate decision to establish their own I independent Republic of Alaigbo or whatever name it shall be called.

Also speaking, the national secretary of the group, Dr Onyi Gbujie noted that Ndigbo will not agree to remain perpetually under a retrogressive system of government that has supervised massacre, genocide, and fuels a strategically crafted policy on marginalisation, alienation, subjugation, humiliation, disenfranchisement and exclusion from national wealth.

Speaking as a keynote speaker, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, charged Igbos to learn how to manage success and count to making strong friendships with the host communities in trying to achieve their target.

The group further expressed unhappiness and distress over the fact that since Igbos were forced to reunite with the rest of Nigeria in 1970, the world has been proven wrong to them.
