2019 Presidency: Ohanaeze Tells Igbo Candidate To Vote For

Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Nnia Nwodo

The pan-African Igbo organisations, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Igbo World Assembly, (IWA) at the 3rd edition of Igbo International Christmas Retreat have called on the Igbo to make the right choice during the 2019 polls by voting in candidate that will steer the ship for restructuring of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ohanaeze President, Nnia Nwodo, said the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on restructuring was a collective decision taken during a summit held in Awka months back

He said the meeting was attended by Igbo political leaders, traditional rulers and representatives of Afenifere and Middle Belt.

Nwodo regretted that lack of true federalism and restructuring had made the wealth of Igbo to be continuously repatriated to Abuja even as the bulk of security agents deployed to Igbo region kept extorting the people.

He said restructuring would empower the local governments more to embark on development projects. Urging Igbo politicians to desist from selling their conscience for money during the polls, he warned that any Igbo who sold out during the election would surely reap the consequences.

In his remarks, the President of Igbo World Assembly, USA, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, said Ndigbo must shine their eyes” during the forth coming 2019 elections. He enjoined them to shun those he described as political misfits and elect credible persons at all levels during the polls.

Anakwenze, who is also the Traditional Prime Minister of Abagana, said the Igbo must endeavour to invest more in education, science and technology and human-capital development.

He described them as the only weapons the Igbo need to beat any unjust policy from the centre and dispel poverty in their land.

His words: “The Igbo Christmas Retreat was conceived as an annual programme geared towards bringing the Igbo people at home and abroad to chart a common course on economic, social, political and cultural frontiers.”

The retreat held at Anakwenze villa, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State had in attendance Igbo scholars like Prof Obasi Igwe of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof Anthony Ejiofor, Emma Okocha and Prof Pita Ejiofor, among others.
