I Did Not Ask Any Lawyer To Sue Police On My Behalf – Evans

Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, kidnapper popularly known as Evans, says he has no hand in suits filed against the police to secure his release.

In an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, Evans said he did not liaise with any lawyer or any party to file the suit on his behalf.

Evans had on June 28 filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the federal high court in Lagos asking the court to compel the police to release him.

In the ex parte application with reference number FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, he asked the court to direct the police to either charge him to court immediately or release him from custody unconditionally.

He had subsequently filed another suit against the inspector general of police and three other parties, claiming N300 million as general and exemplary damages against the police for “illegal detention and unconstitutional media trial”.

But Evans dissociated himself from the lawsuits filed by Olukoya Ogungbeje.

He said the lawsuits were an attempt by some people to put him in more trouble.

“I have no hand in any case filed against the police and I did not speak with any lawyer or my father to fill a case on my behalf,” he was quoted to have said.

“All I will say is that they should temper justice with mercy.”

He was further quoted to have said that if he is released by the police, he would not leave detention because his kidnap victims would kill him.
