Wladimir Klitschko Retires From Boxing
Former heavyweight champion and Ukraine’s great, Wladimir Klitschko has retired from boxing.
Klitschko who was defeated by British-Nigerian Anthony Joshua in the 11th round of the WBA title fight at Wembley Stadium in London in April, hung his gloves on Thursday, August 3, 2017 as one of the all-time greats of the ring after a nine-and-a-half year reign as heavyweight champion.
Announcing his retirement, the 41-year-old said: “I never thought I’d have such a long and incredibly successful boxing career, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” he told his fans in a statement.
“I have achieved everything I dreamed of, and now I want to start my second career after sports,” said Klitschko.
His retirement has however dashed Anthony Joshua’s hopes of getting a blockbuster rematch in Las Vegas, United States in November 2017.
