Ohanaeze Reacts As Buhari Snubs South-East, Reappoints Mustapha As SGF

Apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said it never expected President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) from the Southeast – home of the Igbo.
ORIENTAL TIMES reports that spokesman for the group Uche Achi-Okpaga, who made this known, was reacting to Buhari’s reappointment of Boss Mustapha as SGF for his second term in office.
The Nigerian leader, according to his media aide Garba Shehu, also approved the appointments of 11 of his personal staff on Friday.
By virtue of the reappointment of Mustapha, who hails from Adamawa state in Nigeria’s Northeast sub-region, the South-East has been omitted from all key positions.
Enyinnaya Abaribe, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Abia South, is holding the highest position by the South-East today.
“We are not surprised. This is not news. We never expected anything from him before. When he was inaugurated for a second term, I issued a statement that we were not expecting anything from Buhari,” Achi-Okpaga told Punch.
“This is a man that has never minced words about his intentions. He never placed any premium on South-East so why should you expect him to give us appointments? You see how he went all out to remove the head of the judiciary who is from the South?
“We were able to survive the first tenure and we have enough shock absorbers to help us endure till the end of his second tenure. So, our prayer is that he takes things easy so that the country will not disintegrate.”
