Igbo Quit Notice: Nothern Leaders Approved It — Yerima Shettima
Alhaji Yerima Shettima, leader of the Coalition of Northern Group, CNG, which issued the three-month ultimatum in June has disclosed that the October 1 quit notice issued by Arewa youths to Igbo residing in the north has the backing of the prominent leaders of the region.
Yerima who spoke in Lafia, during the zonal meeting of the Coalition in Nasarawa, explained that in June 2017, a group of prominent northern leaders met with members of Arewa youths to take the position.
“On June 6, 2017, a group of leaders from the north came together to deliberate on the situation in the country.
“After their deliberation, we realised the need to make a statement on the activities of the Biafra agitators in the country.”
As the deadline draws closer, he said the group would soon meet to take a stand on the next line of action.
He said the Kaduna declaration was in response to the Biafra agitation.
According to him, the quit order was precipitated by the activities of Biafra agitators in the South-east led by Nnandi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that was threatening the peace and unity of the country.
“We cannot fold our hands to watch an individual hold this country to ransom.
“We can’t allow an individual insult our leaders and play over our sensibilities,” he said.
He said the quit notice was a signal to Kanu and his group that Nigeria cannot be undermined by a single individual, even as he described Kanu as a frustrated human being seeking political relevance.
Yerima, who led other groups in the north to the annual meeting said after due consultations, they had decided to relax the quit order and watch events, but added that his group would soon take a stand on the October 1 deadline.
He further said that agitation was a normal thing but it must be within the ambit of the law, which Kanu had breached.
He said folowing the quit notice, prominent Igbo leaders and important organisations like Ohaneze Ndigbo came up to dissociate themselves from Kanu’s activities, saying that he did not represent them.
He described northerners as intelligent people contrary to the belief that they were illiterate.
He advised youths to shun violence and thuggery and concentrate on taking their destinies in their hands. He appreciated northern leaders, like the Sultan of Sokoto and the Borno State governor for their intervention on the quit notice, noting that the Coalition was out to ensure that Nigeria remain united.

All this nyamiris have so much problem o. Is a known fact that Yerima and co are well supported in the North for obvious reasons. No one region has monopoly of threat. As such the quit notice is to call ur bluff and get u to secede with less rancour. So please pack from the North and leave us in peace. U can move with whatever u have nobody will stop u but just move to that gully eroded enclave called Igboland and continue with ur evil ways.

If any person or group of persons is complaining about the situation in the country, the only way to stop it is to first hear the person out or listen to what the person has to say, secondly, if the person has said the truth, take steps to redress or correct the situation.

Ohanaeze is appalled that prominent leaders in the north (with the exception of a few), have allowed this development to flourish without reproach. The Arewa youths have stoked the embers of hatred to a discomforting temperature. The toleration of their criminal conduct has potrayed the Federal government as biased and unfair.
Their quit notice to fellow Nigerians to leave any part of Nigeria strikes at the fundamental rights of citizenship. It is a call for the dissolution of the country. Their call for an inventory and seizure of assets of Nigerians living in the North is conversion. It amounts to a day light robbery of lawful property. The declaration of mop up action after October 1st, 2017 to deal with those who resist their quit notice order is a declaration of war. It is surprising that on top of all these a hate song calling for more hatred, despise and “abortion” has been allowed to fester. Yet no one is arrested. All the orders of arrest from Kaduna state and the IGP seem to be ambivalent and unreal. The youths meet freely with Governors of Northern Nigeria and Northern leaders showing that they enjoy their support.
This development signals the beginning of a national catastrophe which if not nipped in the bud will snowball into incalculable damage to our continued existence as one country. Ohanaeze gives notice to the Federal government to deal with this situation decisively or forever be held responsible for the consequences this abdication of responsibility provoke.
