Father In Court For Using Hidden Camera To Film Daughter In Bathroom
A ‘predatory’ father has avoided jail time after admitting to using a hidden camera to film his teenage daughter in the shower.
The 39-year-old father-of-three pleaded guilty to indecent treatment of a child in Southport District Court, United Kingdom on Wednesday, after the girl’s stepmother reported him to police.
The court heard the man had installed a camera hidden in a pen at the family’s Ormeau home on the Gold Coast, Queensland, between 2013 and 2015 when the girl was aged 13 to 15.
The father, who cannot be named, was caught after the camera captured his face when he was setting it up, crown prosecutor Gary Churchill told the court.
The girl’s stepmother had been the one to find the footage and took it to police, but later defended her partner with a character reference, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
The victim said she had considered her dad as the person she ‘trusted most’ and has suffered from depression since the incident.
The man’s defence lawyer argued that his client had no prior offences and claimed the event was an isolated incident.
Judge Catherine Muir called his actions ‘predatory’ as well as branding it a ‘breach of trust.’
The man, who has since moved to Sydney, was sentenced to 15 months with two years suspended.
He will be reportable sex offender for five years.
