“Wear Agbada Or Caftan” — Doctor Jokes About Rape, Blames Women For Causing Rape By What They Wear

A Nigerian medical doctor has made distasteful comments about rape, as he joked about it while blaming women for causing rape by what they wear.

The brutal rape and murder of Uwa Omozuwa, has been condemned by Nigerians all over the country. The victim was said to have been raped on Friday 29th May near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at her church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

According to reports gathered, the deceased had gone to the church to read as she prepared for the possible school resumption after months of staying at home as a result of the lockdown order.

The perpetrators were said to have attacked her at the RCCG Ohovbe road branch, raped and smashed her head with a fire extinguisher, leaving her for dead.

A Twitter user has now shared the screenshot of her chat with a medical doctor, who blamed women for being raped based on what they wear.

In the chat, the doctor suggested that women should “wear agbada or caftan” to prevent rape. He added that “many times they attract it to themselves.”

When asked if he understands what rape means he joked that it’s “the act when a female seduces a male to have an erection, then she runs away.”

Some Nigerians have also made distasteful comments about rape, a Nigerian man, G Love Udenso, has boasted of being a rapist, as he wrote on Facebook that he would continue to rape women anytime the opportunity presents itself.

He made the statement while reacting to the gruesome death of Uwa Omazuwa, the University of Benin student who was raped and murdered inside in a church in Benin, Edo state.

He also stated that girls should not wear pants so as to help him carry out his rape activity without stress.

He wrote in Nigerian Pidgin English,

“I go dey rape dey go. Nothing go happen. Ladies make una help us small. No dey wear pants come weat tight on top. E dey waste person time abeg.Thank you.”
