I Won’t Discriminate Against Ideato Because Of Okorocha, Ihedioha Assures
Governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha has assured people of Ideato that they would suffer no discrimination if he becomes the governor of the state next year.
Addressing Ideato indigenes resident in Abuja on Monday night, Hon, Ihedioha assured the people that the fact that the out-going governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is from Ideato would not make him deny Ideato people of their dues in terms of appointments and amenities.
Ihedioha was reacting to a portion of the speech read by the President-General of the Ideato Peoples’ Assembly (IPA), Chief Augustine Onwuamaeze Eze, whose Assembly met with the governorship candidate.
Chief Eze had said, “the outgoing Governor of Imo state is from Ideato. There is a probable political hostility between an immediate past administration and the one succeeding it. The effect of this on our people and our land is of great concern to us. We need to be assured of fairness and fair treatment from such avoidable situation.”
The IPA President-General also listed some of the problems facing Ideato people which they would want Ihedioha to attend to when he becomes governor.
They include: establishment of agro-based industry using palm nut and palm kernel on a public-private partnership basis, establishment of a tertiary institution in Ideato, completion of the Skill Acquisition Centre in Isiekenesi, roads construction/maintenance, erosion control and provision of electricity.
Said, Chief Eze, “it is unimaginable and very regrettable that Ideato as a community has been without electricity supply for about a decade now. The effect of this deplorable situation can only be imagined”, he lamented.
Ihedioha who was shocked on hearing that the whole of Ideato, made up of two local government areas have not had electricity for the past 8 years assured the people that the problem would be tackled as soon as he assumes office as governor.
The event which turned out to be an avenue to pass vote of no confidence on the 8 years of Governor Okoracha was characterized by tales by people present, of woes of neglect and marginalization of the Ideato people by their governor-brother who hails from Ogboko Town, one of the communities in Ideato South Local Government Area.
The PDP governorship candidate also used the occasion to assure Imo state people that his government wipe away the tears inflicted on them by the out-going government.
He urged Imo people to vote for him because he has the experience, antecedent and integrity to run the state very well.
