Trending: President Buhari Set To Marry Another Wife?

Buhari

The social media is awash with rumours that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to marry another wife.

The speculations suggest that the wedding is set to hold on Friday, 11th of October in a very quiet ceremony.

Online news platform, PointBlankNews, quoted sources in Aso Rock to have revealed that Sadiya Umar Farouq, the incumbent Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, is the woman the President is set to marry.

According to the news outlet, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that Ms Farouk is a close friend of Buhari.

It also revealed that the Minister is well-loved by the ‘cabals’ in the Presidency.

However, as at the time of filing this report, the presidency is yet to confirm or denounce the rumour.

ORIENTAL TIMES reports that in 1971, Buhari married his first wife, Safinatu Yusuf who was First Lady of Nigeria from December 1983 to August 1985.

Buhari and Safinatu had five children together, four girls and one boy. Their first daughter, Zulaihat was named after Buhari’s mother. Their other children are Fatima, Musa (deceased son), Hadiza, and Safinatu.

In 1988, Buhari and his first wife Safinatu divorced.

In December 1989, Buhari married his second and current wife Aisha Buhari. They also had five children together, a boy and four girls: Aisha, Halima, Yusuf, Zahra and Amina.

On 14 January 2006, Safinatu Buhari, the former first lady, died from complications of diabetes. She was buried at Unguwar Rimi cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.

In November 2012, Buhari’s first daughter, Zulaihat Junaid died from sickle cell anaemia, two days after having a baby at a hospital in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, recall that Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has reportedly been absent from the country for over two months.

Daily Trust had quoted multiple sources at the presidential villa to have said the president’s wife left the country in protest against “certain developments” at the presidency.

It reported that the first lady, who left the country early August to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj (Muslim pilgrimage), had not returned to the country.

Muslims who participated in the hajj exercise have since returned home, but credible sources at the Villa said the president’s wife has since left Saudi Arabia for London.

“Mama (first lady) is in London. It was from Saudi Arabia that she went to London,” a source told the newspaper.

Asked when she would return, the source said, “I don’t know. All I know is that she is in London.”
