Ferguson Makes Immediate Impact As Everton Thrash Chelsea 3-1

Duncan Ferguson made an immediate impact in his first game as Everton interim boss as the Toffees earned a huge 3-1 win over Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Everton dominated the first half and got off to the perfect start, Richarlison heading in Djibril Sidibe’s cross after five minutes.

The hosts continued to press throughout the rest of the first 45 minutes as Chelsea struggled for answers.

Just as Richarlison had opened the scoring early in the first period, Dominic Calvert-Lewin did the same after 49 minutes when he took advantage of a mix-up defensively for the visitors to slot coolly past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Frank Lampard’s side did find a response, however, Mateo Kovacic drilling a low shot into the corner from the edge of the area three minutes later.

But a moment of sloppiness allowed Calvert-Lewin to seal a huge three points for the home side.

Kepa’s pass from inside his own half was wayward, allowing Ferguson’s side to counter-attack with Calvert-Lewin tapping home after a series of rebounds in the penalty area.

That cued jubilant scenes from Ferguson, who ran down the touchline and celebrated with an Everton ballboy.
