Woman Falls Victim to TikTok’s Dangerous “Kia Challenge”
A woman recently had her car wrecked and valuables stolen as a result of the “Kia challenge” TikTok trend.
The majority of TikTok trends we watch are entertaining and largely harmless. The social media app has given us countless entertaining trends, such as dancing routines and amusing edits, but every once in a while, a risky trend will surface.
The Kia challenge is the most recent and perhaps dangerous trend to emerge on the app. It all started with a video of two men demonstrating how to start a Kia car using only a USB cord.

Alissa Smart from Lapel, Indiana, on July 16, woke up in the middle of the night to discover she had fallen victim to the Kia challenge trend.
“I was scared, anxious and confused on how someone could see two car seats, and a diaper bag, and still commit such a monstrous act.” Smart told FOX59.
Smart’s car was destroyed, and a lot of her valuables that were in the car were stolen. She does not know who is responsible for this, but she believes that it was done by teenagers.
“I’m leaning toward a teenager, based on the fact they stole bicycles along the way, and then Mountain Dew from my parents’ garage, and ditched it all up the road to come back and try to steal my Kia Soul,” she said.
“There were power tools, keys in my moms truck ignition, and my dad’s truck was unlocked with $160 and thousands of dollars of tools.”
It is estimated that the costs of repairing the damage done to Smart’s car will be quite high, and she claims that she does not have the financial resources necessary to fix her vehicle. As a result, her children will be without their only means of transportation.
The suspects made off with Smart’s wallet, which contained the medical cards of both she and her children, complete with their full names and birth dates. Following the encounter, Smart reported it to the Lapel Police because she felt “violated and scared.”
Speaking on the Kia challenge trend, Smart said “This trend absolutely makes me feel disgusted. It’s really beyond me that people think it’s okay to post criminal acts, let alone participate in them after seeing them online.”
